stinging sunburn

...and off we merrily went along our way to the beach. our good precision planning landed us in rye instead of sorrento...where it was VERY windy. the beautiful sun came out an hour or two later. so the happy members of our beaching team (me, amy, jeannie, dot, elena and kathy) got on our swimming trunks and trundled off into the sea. we thought we were so smart applying and reapplying sunscreen every few hours.

but alas, it was not luck that befell us. we found that upon reaching glen waverley for dinner (and home)...all of us except kathy had gotten sunburnt. i think i even got sunburnt on the top of my head. yes you may all laugh at the stupidity of this, but my head seriously stings when i try to brush my hair. apart from the sunburn, i think i had a spectacular day spent in the company of friends, and being able to actually EAT something. i almost did one of those monster big paragraphs again. since it was a whole day i will dot point some memorable moments.
  • the chain of events that led us to run late (as always), and trying to make up stories to tell the other car of WHY it wasn't our fault that we were late!
  • amy singing and dancing in the backseat of my car, using her drink bottle as a microphone
  • driving down to sorrento, up to the another part of sorrento, back through some other streets before finally settling on rye as our beach of choice
  • having to wait while jeannie tried on and BOUGHT a $90 skimpy bikini...all the while our fish & chips were waiting for us
  • little kids laughing at our atttempts to make a sandcastle
  • covering all the windows of my car with towels to turn it into a makeshift changing room
  • leaving kathy's car trundling along while we took off back to glennie, then spewing when we ended up BEHIND her car on springvale road. our then immature attempts to beat them to our meeting spot. if you're interested, they did beat us back.
  • sunburn...more sunburn...and even more sunburn

so ends a truly lovely day. except for the pink tingling painful areas that everyone has now. such is the good of moisturiser. if i have missed anything, surely helga will add to it. once she recovers from her shocking share of sunburn that is.

olga's thought for the day: one regrets the racer back crop top one wears to the beach when one sees the hideous tanline that it produces.
